NYC Motorcyle Tickets-temp plates

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York
I received 3 tickets today while parked with my motorcycle in NYC. 1 was for failure to have a back plate but I just bought the motorcylce last week and was issued temp plates by the dealer that says license applied for. This plate was on the bike but they gave me a ticket. Why? and is this fightable?

2nd ticket was failure to have registration. Again temp and I have 21 days to register the bike as per dealer how do I fight this one?

3rd was failure to pay the meter but I was on a block and sharing a spot with a car. This ticket only has my VIN # on it as do all 3 tickets as I have not registered the bike or gotten full license yet as I have 21 days until temp plates expire. Can I fight this last ticket on defective ticket as there is no lic # or reg # filled in on ticket. Also they did not fill in the make on any of the tickets.

What is the best thing to do fight all these?

1 & 2 - take your temp registration info in and show them
3 - you cannot "share" a meter.

Umm... I'm not sure where the 21 days come from. Did you get a temporary registration or transit permit? Are we talking about one of those bogus "registration applied for plates" that the manufacturer sticks where the license plate goes that has no legal standing?

Good question. There's no provision for 21 days in any of the VTL - it's 30 or bust:

permit, such vehicle to be operated as a duly registered vehicle for a
period of thirty days from the date of issuance, other provisions of

extended by the commissioner for an additional thirty days and shall
consist of a form or forms which shall be obtained from the commissioner
by the dealer, and executed, issued and displayed in accordance with the
provisions of this section and in such manner as the commissioner shall
prescribe.
Even if it's the proper temp tag, this section could be problematic:

I did get the temp registration from the dealer they said 21 day so not sure why they said 21 and not 30 but they did give me the temp registration for the time being and I do have that. I will send that in and plead not guilty. There is a law on NYC site stating that you can share a metered spot with a car. I also read it on one of the other threads on here but not sure if that will hold up we'll see. thanks for the info and responses.

oh ps I go the bike in NJ that may be why the temp registration is only valid for 21 days as opposed to 30 but not sure.

OK, now we're getting somewhere. It's a NJ temporary registration. It's valid for no more than TWENTY (not 21) days, to let you get the vehicle out of the state.

However, there's a gotcha. NY residents are required to register vehicles PERIOD. There is no stated grace period. The 30 day grace only applies to people moving to the state.

I'd take both your NJ temporary registration as well as your NY registration (dated before the temporary expires) and plead your case. You're technically guilty, but it's a good try.
