NYC Standing Ticket, but paid Muni Meter

What is the name of your state? NY

I was parked in midtown, 38th street, between 5th and 6th.

There was a sign that said Commercial Standing Only, muni-meter 6AM - 7PM. So I paid $2.00 for an hour on the muni meter and put the receipt on the dash.

When I returned 1/2 hour later, I had a $115 ticket for "No Std Com Mtr Zone"

My contention is that it said "No Standing" and not "No Parking" The Muni Meter itself said nothing about being commercial only. It is just confusing.

Any advice or should I just pay the fine and move on?

Thanks!

James

Standing and parking are synonymous in this case. I take it yours was not a commercial vehicle?

No, I was not driving a commercial vehicle. Thanks for letting me know about "standing / parking".

Best,

Actually... "No Standing" is stricter than "No Parking" in NYC.

NYC Traffic Rules, Definition of parking (http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/pdf/trafrule.pdf)

Parking. The standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, otherwise than temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading property or passengers.

Standing. The stopping of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, otherwise than temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in receiving or discharging passengers.

Yep - I do believe you are correct. But, in our OP's case, standing and parking are synonymous, since he wasn't involved in loading or unloading ANYTHING

True he was not unloading anything, but I just thought it should be pointed out in because
