Old Parking Ticket

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arizona

I recently recently started getting phone calls from a company called Progressive which claims that I owe Phoenix Municipal Court for a traffic ticket from back in 1999. As it's the first I've heard of it, I laughed and hung up on them but they've started repeatedly pestering me. They call with a robot and I waited ten minutes today before giving up on speaking to them today. As I didn't have this cell phone 10 years ago, I'm not even sure where they picked it up from. Anyway, is there no stature of limitations on old parking tickets? I'm not too inclined to pay for something I don't remember getting and one would think 10 years is quite a long time to wait before bothering me about it. I certainly couldn't argue about my whereabouts on the day in question. My intention is to ignore this until it goes away unless you have some other advice. Am I potentially acing any legal ramifications?

Cool

I'd suggest searching this web site for "statute of limitations," as this question has been answered several times.

You might also want to search for something like "I ignored this old ticket and boy am I sorry" -- every place is different, but where I live, municipal fines aren't even dismissable by bankruptcy.

"Waiting for it to go away" will actually make things worse on yourself.

Statute of Limitations refers to the time between when the crime allegedly occurred and when charges were pressed. Charges were pressed when the ticket was written, so SoL does not apply.

A lot of old tickets have been lost in the cogs, but they are reappearing as computers get better and better, and that's why this is catching up with you. You need to pay.
