old parking tickets with an out-of-state plate

What is the name of your state? Pennsylvania

I accrued a bunch of parking tickets in Pennsylvania while in college but had a California Plates and never registered in PA. It's been about 5 years since the tix were issued and I've sold that car since in California to a dealer as a trade in for my new car. Now that I'm older and wiser, I'm worried I owe the state a ton of money or that this is lingering on a record somewhere. Are they going to track me down one day? Or did the dealer tack on the cost of those tickets to the value of my car when I traded it in? I'm looking for a little peace of mind. How do I settle this once and for all without paying a fortune in late fees.

Stop and think, for one. What could you do to find out how much you owe?

One answer would be to call the issuing authority in Pennsylvania. Give them the plate number and see if they're still outstanding. You didn't say how long it's been since you left college, but some places expunge old unpaid tickets after a certain amount of time. OTOH, other places *never* get rid of old tickets, so be prepared for a shock, and you may be pleasantly surprised.
