Old Ticket for parking in Fire LaneWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TEXAS I received a call yesterday from a collection agency about a ticket that I got in 1995. They said it was for parking in a fire lane and no liability insurance. After getting the run around with several different agencies, they said I could post a $500 bond and go back to court to fight this. Why am I just new hearing of this and can they really expect me to pay the $675 they are requesting. I do remember getting this ticket and at that time I contacted the court...they said that they were so back logged at the time, that they could not find any information on my ticket and that I didn't need to do anything. Of course that was 14 years ago and I have no documentation of this. Is there a statute of limitations and should I try and fight this? I have had auto insurance since I began driving, so I know I could prove that...but I have no documentation of the other. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? |

Considering the fact that you were cited for no insurance, one could assume that you actually received a paper citation.... But who would keep that for 14 years? You should be able to get a copy of that from the court. As that is usually considered the "charging document" and without it, the charges would not have been filed.
