Out of State Parking Ticket in NC

What is the name of your state?I am a Kentucky resident and spent a few months in North Carolina on a job contract. While there, my girlfriend and I decided to get married. While we were waiting for the paperwork to be completed by the clerk, apparently we crossed the No Parking from x to x threshold. When we came out of the building (3 minutes after the time that no parking started), I had a ticket on my windshield and they were beginning to back a tow truck up to my car. There were two other tow trucks as well, each with two cars on them.
I calmly got into my car, backed away from the towtruck, and left as I'm very well aware that once it's hooked up to the tow truck, you're out of luck.

It's a few months later and I'm now back in KY. The state of NC has sent me a notice about this unpaid parking ticket and I'm wondering what the implications of not paying it are. I don't plan on returning back to NC.

I understand that I was technically parked in a no parking zone during the specified time, but given the situation with all of the tow trucks outside the building, I feel like they were camped out, just waiting for the clock to tick over.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Typical scam by tow truckers. Anyway, this is completely up to you. I would pay it. If you do not want to pay it, then never go to NC again.
