What is the name of your state? Kentucky

I live in an apt complex in Louisville KY. I have had a car (good condition) that the transmission went out on. It is parked, and there is an ample amount of parking. The tag's expired back in December. I had a cop knock on my door a few hours ago, telling me that the tag's are expired and I have two options. 1) Get the tag's renewed by this Wedsday, or 2) Quote, "Ray (apartment manager) wants it out of here". He told me if one of the two is not done by Wedsday, that he will give me a ticket, I would have to go to court, and he would have the car towed. My question is, does he have any legal right to do this? The car has NOT moved in months and will not, battery is dead. The car is parked in an apartment parking lot and is not being driven around. Does the cop have a right to give me a ticket for expired tag's on a vehicle that hasnt moved in months, for it just sitting there? And Legally does the apt manager have to give me something in writing stating that he wants it gone? Im not sure if the cop is blowing smoke up my butt, because "Ray wants it gone" This cop sit's out there in the parking lot several times a week. Is he just all buddy buddy with the apt manager and just trying to trick me into getting this done?

And also, my current lease is not up UNTIL May 1st or so. This car is ON THE LEASE. I have signed a new lease as of Friday, im assuming he figured he got me for another year, so screw with him now. The car I am currently driving is not on the lease though, but will be as of May 1st

I dont know under what authority the police would have to give you a ticket on private property unless its a zoning ticket but who knows. Yes the mgr can tow your car for expired tags and not running especially if youve been warned, read your lease.

Unless the parking lot has restricted access, the police officer can cite the vehicle for expired tags. Just because it is private property, it is still open to public access. All your excuses border on the extremely lame. As the owner of rental properties, consider yourself lucky you were warned, I would have had the vehicle towed months ago without warning.

It is not uncommon for apartment complexes to have rules about vehicle "storage". Check your lease or any addendums. A vehicle with expired registration is obviously not legally being actively used and may be considered abandoned.

My truck was towed once by a temporary overzealous (butch) apartment manager, because she was under the mistaken impression that it had not been driven for years. The EPA sticker and city sticker were 3 years old, but EPA window sticker was no longer required, riverboat casino income eliminated city stickers, and registration was current.
