Parked in "curb cut out"

What is the name of your state? Virginia
OK, it was the first day of school i get to school and park in the only place on the street to park which was behind a ford explorer and in front of a cut out in the curb... ---___--- (here's a little pic/i'm on the right 3 dashes)
I admit I was close to the cut out but not in it as the ticket on my windshield said. Also the no parking signs are in the cut out not on the sides. The cop filled out the year on the ticket as 06' and not 05'. Can i get out of this ticket?
