Parking in apartment building drivewayWhat is the name of your state? California I hope this question is applicable here. I live in a four unit apartment building with the only access to the back of the building being along one narrow driveway. My apartment runs along this driveway and one of the other tenants in the building has started using this driveway as a parking spot. None of the apartments come with parking. Are there any laws that prohibit the use of this driveway as a parking spot? When a car is parked in the driveway there are only about 10-12 inches between the car and the side of the building. On the other side of the car is a raised 18 inch concrete wall and metal fence, approximately 6 inches between it and the car. The tenant claims the landlord has given him permission to park there. I haven't been able to reach the landlord to confirm whether this is true. I'm still trying. Do I have any options to stop this if 1. The landlord has given permission or 2. The landlord hasn't given permission but does nothing about it? Thanks for your help. |

You can always call the police and see if they will ticket or tow him for blocking the driveway, but as it is entirely on private property, don't expect much. And if it does NOT block the driveway completely, don't expect them to act at all on it. This is a matter you likely need to take up with the landlord. - Carl
