parking ticket error

I am a Michigan resident with a car registered in MI (with University edition plate) but currently live in MA while I attend school. The other day I recieved a parking ticket in Boston but the officer wrote down the wrong MI license plate number. The officer included the "letter" of the university in the license plate number (e.g. "S" as in MSU or "M" as in UofM). Is there anyway they could track me down if I don't pay? could the State of Michigan assume it was an University plate and find me?
