parking tickets for motorcycle sold

I live in Tennessee, but this actually involves something that went on in Texas. This is on behalf of a friend.

My friend had a motorcycle, which he sold about 1 1/2 years ago. This was when he lived in Texas; now he lives in Tennessee.

Unfortunately, it was a cash transaction and he neglected to transfer the title to the new owner -- and he doesn't even know the guy's name!

Recently he was contacted about a number of parking tickets for illegally parking in handicapped spots. The parking tickets were for this motorcycle, for is, I guess, legally still his (the title is still in his name) and was traced to him. He doesn't know how to contact the guy he sold it to.

What can he do? Is he still legally responsible for these tickets? They total around $500. And how can he prevent this from continuing to happen?

He needs to contact the licensing authority where he sold the thing.

Try to convince them that it is not his.

This happens all the time...it happened to me once when I gave my car to a the ***** charitable organization. Hell of a mess to clear up.
