Private Property Street & Parking Ticket

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
I live in California in a private, gated community. This morning I received a ticket for having my car parked facing in the wrong direction (so I could wash it in the shade). The car was parked this way for less than 30 minutes. Is it true that local parking ordinances, aside from emergency ordinances, are not enforceable in private communities? I seem to remember this happening when the community first opened and the local police station through out the tickets. Can anyone please provide any information on this topic?

Police stations don't throw out tickets so what you heard was wrong.

Just because it is gated community does not necessarily mean that it is a private street.

What did your HOA say when you asked your questions?
