Protesting through mail - NY

State: NY

I received a 115 dollar parking ticket about a week ago. There were a few errors on the ticket. There is no VIN number listed and the color of the car and registration expiration date are both incorrect. Obviously, I'm going to fight this. I'm planning to write a letter to the PVB and sending pictures of my car to confirm the mistakes on the parking ticket. I just have a few questions:

1. Should I use a basic business letter format?
2. What happens after they receive the letter? About how long does it take them to send a response? Is there a chance they could dismiss it or do they just send me a court date?
3. Will they send me late payment notices while my case is being reviewed?

Thanks!

Color = rarely makes a difference
Registration = depending on how "wrong" it was, this could be a complete defense

Obviously. Why would you pay a ticket you're guilty of if there's a way not to?

That's a good start - they just love getting mail there.

The PVB likes the Advanced Business Letter format more.

Do you really need to ask? Haven't you seen those big dumpsters out back?

4-6 months usually.

They either dismiss it outright or give you 30 days from the decision to pay in full. You stand at least a 50% better chance of having it dismissed by disputing it in person.

Sometimes - so just keep proof that you are appealing it and they'll (eventually) take the late fees off.
