What is the name of your state? New York

Is it illegal to park on the street for an extended period given
that the vehicle has proper restristration, inspection and there are no
signs restricting parking at anytime?

It can be. Just how long are we talking?

Many cities have ordinances restricting the type of vehicle and the length of time any vehicle may be parked in certain areas. For instance, my city has a 120 hour rule for any vehicle parked in the city, a 5-hour rule for big rigs, a 48-hour rule for trailers, and RVs, and other assorted restrictions - none of which are posted anywhere but are the law all the same.

You might consider checking the parking ordinances for where you live to see if your vehicle is a potential target for citation or towing.

I guess the city fathers think tired truckers are somebody elese's problem... ;)
Ah, but there are many places for them to stop and park outside the city limits! We have Wal-Mart, rest stops, a trucker's restaurant with a huge parking area for overnight trucks, hotels, and even a small truck stop - they don't need to obstruct our streets and crack our pavement.
