suspended/revoked license

What is the name of your state? Virginia - Need info/advice, my husband was stopped two nights ago for having a brake lite out, believe it or not he was in front of the store where he was turning into to get the new light.
My husband explained that he was replacing it as soon as he turned into the parking lot, the officer didnt care (big surprise) he had to show licence and reg, however because of my mistake I had his registration in my car I was updating info a few days before and forgot to return, he explained and even asked to call me to bring it down to the site I was literally 1 minute away, the officer wouldnt accept anything and took his license and said it would be revoked for 30 days. What are we supposed to do now the vehicle and driver are legal cant that be looked up how do we reinstate before 30 days and now are we looking at hundreds of dollars in fees for a 2.00$ lite bulb and a missing paper, HELP!!!

Your state requires all motor vehicles to carry the vehicle registration and must be presented when asked by someone with the authority to do so. Your little mistake became a big mistake. And 94.7564% of the folks stopped for burned out vehicle lighting is on there way to purchase said item when pulled over. Once a cop hears the same excuse for the 101st time, the BS meter starts to peg right away.

It is your responsibility as a driver to make sure you are carrying all the proper paperwork while operating a vehicle. Also you are responsible to make sure all legal components are working properly while operating the vehicle. The best advice I can give is to bring the receipt of your bulb purchase into court (which should show that the bulb was fixed minutes after the ticket). Now as far as the registration problem, make sure to bring all the paper work in to the judge showing that the car would have been legal if it were in the car. BEG FOR MERCY!
