Ticket for No housing permit

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ

I received a ticket for parking in a lot without a housing permit (behind Senior Citizen building) and would like to know If I have a chance to win if I fight it.

I was visiting my grandparents for about an hour, I have always parked in the lot without any problems. There was a Police Officer parked in the lot when I arrived, he drove his car close to mine and stared at me till I got out. He then sped off as soon as I exited the vehicle and turned the corner.

While I was on the phone outside calling my grandparents to open the door, the officer came back around(He had circled the entire block to do this). He drove past me again and then waited at the other end of the lot.

As I entered the building he turned around and came back past me again, this time stopping his car not too far from where I had parked. I stared at him from the door a bit and then went upstairs. I looked out the window upstairs and he was gone.

When I left the house I found a ticket on my car for parking without a permit there, so he must have circled the block for a 2nd time.

Do I have anything to fight here? I feel like the Police Officer could have got out his car and stopped me if he was suspicious of something or at least inform me that I couldn't park there ( Which I didn't know)

Also, during family events many people have parked there for hours and nothing eve happened.

Thanks in advance.

Police aren't required to tell you that you're about to break the law.

Don't worry about what other people do. That doesn't make it legal.

Likewise, just because you get away with some illegal activity for a period of time is no defense when you finally get a ticket for it. You just lucked out all this time.

You really have no basis for fighting this.
