Ticket for No Std Com Mtr Zone

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

Before I ask for help I'd just like you to keep in mind that I have no driving experience what so ever (I'm helping my parents who do not speak English well, I'm 14) so bear with me.

OK, so my parents got a ticket for parking in a spot with, and apparently for violating "No Std Com Mtr Zone DAYS/HRS: EXCEPT Su/ 8a-6p". The complaints were: "no visable summon (that's how it was spelled)/ no permit". The ticket was for $115 dollars and my parents had only left for ten minutes. Before they left they paid the meter for a full hour and had placed the receipt on top of the dashboard (driver's side, you could see it at the bottom corner). They showed me the sign and I was confused as heck. It said something like pay at muni-meter, which is why my parents thought it was OK to park there (there were also other people parking there, and around 3/4s of the sidewalk got a ticket for it).

Would they be able to dispute this case and win? My parents don't really want to settle for a $25 dollar reduction.

    Thanks for your help

It sounds like they parked in a part-time commercial zone, so unless they have commercial license plates, probably not a lot they can do to fight this. Search this forum for other NYC parking ticket posts, as there is some more information about how to tell if the ticket was properly filled out and regarding settlements (discounts) that may be available.

No. Not even with the New York State placard. A New York City placard would work. State/Foreign placards are only good for marked handicapped spaces (mostly in parking lots).
I'm not a lawyer, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

In honor of Good Friday? But Ron is absolutely correct - NYC does not recognize NYS placards. (And to get an NYC placard, you have to be examined by a NYC-approved doctor from their list).

Only Alternate Side Parking rules are suspended on Good Friday. All other regulations are in effect.
