Ticketed for parking before the "No parking" sign ?!

Atlanta, GA

I parked on the quiet city street before the sign saying:
"No Parking. 7 Am to 7 PM Zone <name of the are> permits exempt". The sign was installed in the middle of the block, and it was no signs or street painting between the crossroads and the sign. The ticket says I needed that permit.

At the same time lots of folks park on the Luckie St. before the No Parking sign installed in the middle of the block.

Some people say that the No Parking sign may work on the whole block, and not just after it. WHat do you think ? Shall I appeal ?

If there are no arrows, chances are the sign is good for the whole block. If there is an arrow pointing in the opposite direction of which you parked, then you are not guilty.

Nope. No arrows. And I assume that you are right, and the sign regulates the whole block.

However, as I said, it may contradict to the situation nearby, where the simple NO Parking sign is installed in the middle of the block, and everybody park before it.

"Everybody else is doing it" is not a valid excuse for breaking the law, I'm afraid.
