Tint ticketWhat is the name of your state? MN So, I have been stopped again for illegal window tint. This is my 3rd tint ticket. My other two tickets have been dismissed. First one was back in late sept of 04' and second was feb 05'. Last time a lawyer sent me a copy of a letter he sent to the DA: "DISMISSAL OF CITATION/COMPLIANT BY PROSECUTING AUTHORITY PURSUANT TO RULE 30.01". I would like to get medical exception since my eyes are sensitive to light, but don't know the process. I had same amount of tint on my other car and was never bothered for years. My new car happens to be from oklahoma and already had tint done. The tint is 25% (legal in ok). Here is the statue: http://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/stats/169/71.html |

(2) are required to satisfy prescription or medical needs of the driver of the vehicle or a passenger if the driver or passenger is in possession of the prescription or a physician's statement of medical need; So, it seems that if you can get your doctor to write a prescription saying you NEED the tinting on your windows, then you might be able to get away with it. Of couse, I also presume that means you also must wear sunglasses all the time when you are outside. There are very few people who are truly so sensitive to light that they NEED window tinting. If you cannot articulate your medical condition by name, then chances are you do not have a medical conditions requiring the tinting. I, too, have to squint in the light and have a mild sensitivity. I often have to wear my sunglasses outside even in the non-summer months. Would tinting be a good idea for me? Sure! Could I qualify for an exception? No way. - Carl

| I'm a tinter. I find that most (I sure you are the exception) of the calls I get for illegal tint come from 19-20 year old males, who have yet to take on the responsiblity of homeownership. Therefore, they belive themselves to be judgement proof. If you are involved in an injury accident in WI with OK legal tint, you may find a plaintiff's council contending that your vision was impared by illegal tinting. That will be about the time YOUR insurance cuts and runs. I'd get it in writing from your insurance that they'll cover you in the event of a problem, considering your tint is TWICE as dark as the IWFA's chart suggests is legal in your state. I'd also read carefully the WI law, the link posted does not appear to have one critical detail: does the exception to the tint VLT require removal for driving after dark? That's how the medical exemption reads in California. Nobody wants the cheeze ball WalMart stick on tint that is compliant. |
