Question

Uniform Traffic Ticket - Must PLEAD BY MAIL?

What is the name of your state? New York

When an Uniform Traffic Ticket was issued, do you have to Plead by mail?
Or you can turn up to the court at the date shown on the ticket?
Or you have to Plead of NOT Guilty and then turn up to the court at the date shown on the ticket?

There are no directions on the back of the ticket? The person who answered the phone at the phone number on the ticket didn't have the answer?

The ticket was issued in the middle of the highway. The ticket was printed off from the Troop's car. There is nothing on the back side of the ticket nor I can find any phone# what so ever on the ticket.

Information given on the ticket was not clear. It didn't say I have to response by mail but it stated RETURN BY MAIL BEFORE OR IN PERSON ON the date.

That's why I am

There should be a court date printed somewhere on the ticket (usually it's in its own "section" about 2/3 of the way down). You can either mail the ticket in (with your plea) before that date (meaning long enough before that the ticket will GET to the courthouse by that date; do not mail it ON that date), or you can personally appear in court that day and hand it to the clerk with your plea.

If, for whatever reason, there is no court date listed, figure out what county you were inwhen the ticket was issued (google), look up that county's courthouse information here: http://www.courts.state.ny.us/courts/upstateny.shtml and call the clerk and ask about your ticket and what to do about the missing court date.

Good luck.
