Update on parking on unpaved parcel

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? California

Hi, this is Arnold from before. If any of you remember me, I was the guy who was looking for information on how to fight a ridiculous parking ticket that was issued because I parked on the dirt when there were no signs or anything. Here's my original thread - http://forum.freeadvice.com/showthread.php?t=236388

Before I get to the details of my follow up, my question is do citation officers have some sort of deadline to turn in a citation before it just becomes null and void or is there an amount of time of which after a citation is issued, it becomes null and void if not reported or turned in?

The details are as follows: I got a parking citation. I wrote an appeal and sent it in for administrative review. It's been 1 month and 2 weeks since my ticket was issued. I called in to inquire about the status of my citation and how my review might have went, but the operator said that the ticket wasn't even in the system. Then I asked if there is a point of time in which the ticket just becomes null and void if its not been filed after a certain period of time and she said no. I also asked if the issuing officer of the citation even had any sort of deadlines to turn in and report citations and she replied, no. What kind of bull crap is this?

The period of waiting for something can be more agonizing then the end result. Is this legal, making me wait for a lazy bum to actually turn in a ticket? I can't even assume that the ticket is lost or that it'll go away because the officer hasn't even turned in the ticket and he has no deadline. Is there anything I can do about this?

Any suggestions or comments to help me out in this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I suspect the ticket has to be turned in within a year.

Let's hope Carl the Cop from California gets on here and gives us the final answer!

Thanks, Carl was the guy who helped me out last time too. I hope I can get a straight answer. Perhaps he's looking into it right now.

I am not sure of the statutory requirement to get a parking cite filed. Since it is a largely civil matter involving the city or issuing jurisdiction, it is governed by a set of codes I am not largely familiar with. Vehicle code violations for drivers (and others) who are cited in person have - as I recall - five days to be filed with the court or the prosecuting agency. Parking tickets are a whole other matter.

I would suggest contacting whoever is in charge of parking enforcement and lighting a fire under them. Explain that you want to get the matter resolved and you cannot do this because the citation has apparently not even been filed yet.

Also, document each and every contact and who you talked to. If this goes on and suddely it appears a year from now, you will want to be able to show that you tried to resolve the matter in a reasonable amount of time but were put off.

Sorry, but parking enforcement is not my forte. Just keep pounding the people in charge ... politely.

Once again, Carl has come to the rescue. Thank you so much! I appreciate your input and I feel much more confident that I'll get this matter resolved without me paying any ridiculous fines.

I got the same ticket in the same city

hi
I was wondering what happened with your appeal and can you tell me the steps you took to do it because I got the same ticket today in the same city. I got mines on 4000 Iowa. It made my day horrible seeing how much I would have to pay. If you can tell me that would be great.

This post is more than three years old ... I doubt the OP is around any more.
