Vehicle Registration Questions

What is the name of your state? TX

Ok, my sister and her husband lent me their extra car(mine is currently without air conditioning) so I could drive down to Galveston for a family vacation. I did not notice until now, that the car has expired registration. My sister was shocked, apparently her husband had not told her and her step-daughter had been driving it until now, so she had not noticied. Anyways, If I were to drive it and get pulled over, would the ticket be their responsibilty or mine? And whose insurance would it effect? Please let me know ASAP! Thanks!

It would be yours. It doesn't affect the insurance.

Just to add one more kink into the story, apparently, the reason my brother-in-law never got the registration is because he still has not gone to get the titled transferred.....would that have any effect at all on this? And, why would it not be the responsibility of the owner of the car if the registration is out?

It is the responsibility of the DRIVER to ensure that the vehicle they are DRIVING is compliant with all relevant laws. You may not operate a vehicle that is not registered properly.

It is the responsibility of the DRIVER to know that they are driving a properly registered, properly insured, properly equipped (no broken lights, etc) vehicle.
