Vermont registration - Virginia location

What is the name of your state? Virginia

I have a vehicle that is registered in the state of Vermont to my address where I live in Virginia. It has CURRENT and valid licence plates. I was told that if I bring the vehicle into Vermont, I will need to have the VT inspections performed. This vehicle will not, however, cross the state lines into Vermont. With that, the Vermont police will not site me for lack of inspection.

You can replace the states, for this question, to make it more generic and the answer may suffice both ways. Do the police in any one state have the means or mechanism to cite a vehicle with out of state registration for not having a current inspection sticker for the state in which it is registered?

I appreciate your input.

Yes, absolutely.

Based on...?

This car is parked in my community where the current Board members are PLEASED that they have been elected over me (the past election), even though (or because) I was President of the Board for the preceeding 10 years. BTW - I did not lose an election - I just didn't run. They don't like me - and they are focusing on my vehicle and looking to tow. HOWEVER: There are other out-of-state vehicles parked in the community, as well, who are not in focus of the Board. The vehicle IS registered with the County in which I live for taxation purposes.

Perhaps you can explain how local police (note that the vehicle is parked on private property) or MOST IMPORTANTLY an association board can enforce an inspection requirement for different states when many such inspections are not represented by physical stickers.

If you are truly not able to give me a response - please let me know.

Unless you are in the military or in some other protected group, you can be sited for living in Virginia and not registering the car here. You also probably owe personal property tax on the car that you haven't been paying. Further, despite the fact that "vermont" may not care that your inspection is not current, the state police here CAN AND WILL ticket cars from out of state with expired out of state registration or inspections.

1. Register the car here.
2. Get it inspected.

Stop blaming other people.
