What is the name of your state? Nevada

My husband received a ticket in California for no seat belts (car didn't have em), no registration or ins, it was an emergency midnight run out in the middle of nowhere in a car not normally used. Because of poverty my husband didn't appear in court but wrote the judge a letter explaining why. He was issued a "failure to appear warrant for his arrest" cost over $1,000. It has been six years since he has driven but wants to reinstate his liscense in Nevada, but still doesn't have the Money to pay the fines in California. Is there anyway out of this situation? Does he have to back to California to get rid of the warrant? Is there a statute of limitations on traffic warrants? :(

Statute of limitations means how long he can be CHARGED after committing the crime. He has already been charged, so statute of limitations no longer applies. He will need to contact the court to figure out the next step.

Thanks for the correction. Okay, but the only way to contact the court is to go there in person and they will arrest him if he has a warrant out for his arrest and can't pay the fine right?

He does have to come back to Ca, or hire an atty to represent him (more $).

However, a Judge will/should let him do jail time or community service to pay off the fine.

That fine of $!000 is probably a base of about $300 and Hubby could ask the Judge if he could do about 10 days of jail in lieu of the fines. Moost Judges will tack on about 30 days for the warrant.

He'll get about 40 days county jail. Depending on the county, he should be out in about 5 days in L.A; about 10-15 in Riverside/San Bernardino/San Diego....it depends on the Judge and the County jail overcrowding.

He really needs to take care of this. He can be picked up on that warrant at any time, and waste time in custody waiting for Ca to say they won't pay to extradite.

Good luck.
