Are you "parked" if the car is running?

I live in Chicago, Illinois. This morning I pulled in front of my house to let the car warm up and went inside. I live in a residential parking permit area but have yet to get a sticker. I got a ticket while the car was running out in front. Isn't that considered "standing" not "parking"?

You left the vehicle so its considered parking.

Not sure it really makes any difference. I would have to look up Chicago municipal codes but "standing" and "parking" are often used synonymously with no distinction between the two in many places.

Regardless, you were parked.

Certainly an unattended vehicle is parked unless it is rolling down the road. Did you at least have it locked? This newsletter from Yorkville mentions a state statue about leaving an unattended vehicle running http://yorkville.il.us/newsletters/nwdec2005.pdf
