| Since I was in you shoes about 10 years ago, here's my advice for what it's worth. Filing a provisional patent gets you a year to figure out if it's worth pursuing. In that year you can then talk to people without fear of losing your idea. To file a provisional you can hire a patent lawyer or I've heard they have a form on legalzoom.com too. You can file them yourself with the USPTO, but you don't want to mess it up. Also get it in writing up front with your friend, who's in charge. I thought 50/50 was a good idea, but somebody has to have the final say. Make it 51/49 if you want, but get it clarified early and in writing.] Good luck |
