What is the name of your state? Minnesota

Can a PR close a bank account (not an estate account, but dead parties) without a death certificate? I know that a PR has to file for tax number...but what does it entail to close a non estate account and open an "estate account". current bank account has been put on "hold" because POA was still writing checks out on it. (account holder has been dead for awhile). POA is not a beneficary of account. PR did not know if death certificate had to be prestented as well as his PR information.

Thanks...when it is convienant.

I would think that the Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration (whatever MN calls them) would be sufficient. After all, those are evidence that a death has occurred, probate has been opened, and the person holding the Letters has been appointed by the court to administer the deceased's estate.

But, in the end, it is up to the bank if they want to be a pain and want to see a death certificate.
