Family member died recently. We have not attempted to probate his will yet. His will, written nine years ago, lists a female friend as executor, her husband as first alternate executor and decedent's mother as second alternate. Female friend and her husband (executor and 1st alternate) divorced and each moved out of state several years ago and we can't find them. Decedent's mother died before the decedent. What happens when neither of the living listed executors can be found and the third one is dead?

Do a search for them through a private investigator for about $100. Then if they still can't be found, anyone else who applies for the position at the courthouse (by filing the will for probate) can become executor, or hire a probate attorney for that purpose.
