What is the name of your state? GA

My mother in law died several years ago leaving a will naming the 4 children and a 5th party. There are no assets beyond household goods and the house & property. If family members make special trips to repair, upgrade and prepare the home for sale is it common or fair to charge the estate for those expenses, and collect when the property is sold before the 5-way division? What is the name of your state?

If all five of you are to be equal recipients of the proceeds that result from the sale of this property, AND all five of you are on cordial terms (which isn't always the case in estate matters), there are two ways you could deal with fix-up expenses. The estate executor can reimburse your out-of-pocket costs as you go along -- assuming he/she approves of what is going on. Or you can decide to equally share those costs among yourselves and wait for the property to be sold and proceeds divided. Either way, the net to each individual is the same.
