What is the name of your state? Virginia
mom died intestate with only personally held assets being a $1,000 car. a collector for her credit card company is harassing my father to pay off the debt on her individual account "or else". we have a small estate affidavit from the court. can we do something to stop the harrasment? or does this debt have to be paid?

Your father is not responsible for any debts that were in your mom's name only. (state Va.) Send the collection agcy. a copy of the death certificate. If there is not enough money in the estate to pay the creditor, they don't get paid or paid in full.
