descendent estate, no will

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

Hello everyone.
An uncle of my mother is deceased, no will left behind him. He lived in NY,USA.
My mother and other nephews are his closest family and heirs, but
we live in Europe, in Macedonia.

We heard from his friends he had property, but do not know for sure.

Please, advice on what is the legal procedure to find out if he had any property/ assets, and if yes, how to proceed with the inheritance law.

You need to know what city in New York he lived in and then find out what the name of the COUNTY is for that city. Do a GOOGLE search to look up county court records for that county to do a search by name.

You may want to visit the website ACRIS.COM which is an online database for properties in the New York, NY area and do a search for his name to see if it is mentioned there.

Is your mother the most closely related surviving relative of the decedent? If he had a wife or children or siblings, you need to inform them about this matter since they will be the most likely legal heirs. They (or your mother) can hire a probate attorney (in the same city where the probate court is located) to handle the man's estate.
