Welfare status affect inheritance rights?

DOES WELFARE STATUS of named heir affect anything in a will?
Can the son of a father who left everything to a rich sister, lay any
claim at all because of having mental illness and living on welfare?
I live in Denver COLORADO

Thanks for info dandy don.
one further question. I sent a demand for notice on the value of the final
liquidated estate with details of bank account. I sent this to my sister , who
is the PR, who lives in WA state. She refuses to provide any dollar money
value and bank account info or any info on dollar value of dad's estate.
#1-Can she be forced to reveal this info?
I sent the county court for their records, and the court case records make
no mention of any dollar value of the estate whatsoever. All I know is the
sale price of the house given me by the county.
The PR, my sister also refuses to communicate in any way with me about
my father's life.
#2-Does publication of notice to heirs, required by law, mean that a
small unknown local paper(I lived here 50 years and never heard of the
paper called Brighton-Blade) constitute legal publication in a city like Denver,
where everybody reads only the Denver Post or Rocky Mtn News?????
thanks

Your posting is confusing because you have not provided all details.

Was son named in the will to get anything or was he specificially mentioned by name to get nothing?

Mental illness would not prevent you from being a beneficiary.

Are you the son?

What is the total value of the estate?

If you were not specifically disinherited, then you should be taking the will to a local probate attorney to find out whether you have rights to contest it. We can't make a determination here because we do not have the language of the will to review.

detail of will

Yes , I was specifically EXCLUDED in one paragraph, and then , in
the next paragraph I was named to recieve a (token sum) of $1000,
which, in scribbling at some later date, was initialed and it said" make that
$100"(one tenth)....so YES, I was excluded and in a token way with a
tiny sum, included and named. The value of the estate must be at least
$250,000(the house was sold for $160,000 by my sister).......However,
my father was totally unaware I lived on welfare because of mental illness.

So sorry that you were treated so shabbily. All you are entitled to is the $100 and you have no legal grounds to contest.
