What is the name of your state?NY

Under what conditions would the Federal government put a freeze on account which an executor wants to close out? Does the bank as a matter of course report such withdrawals to the Feds?

My response:

Taxes, for one. Also, banks report withdrawals of $10,000.00 or more - - and that's Federal law.

I, seniorjudge, and Dandy Don have covered things with this OP. There are assests to probate and a surviving wife. IMO, the surviving wife really does not understand that she is entitled to an elective share of her deceased husband's estate.

Here's the links below if you want to read them. It appears that we've had an exercise in futility, and the OP wants to freeze an account so that any beneficiaries of the account can't obtain the money without paying taxes on that money.

We (banks) don't like to publicize this information. I realize that a lot of people know this already, but why spoon feed people ways to fly under the radar?

I think it's wrong to assume that a person is asking about Federal banking regulations in order to learn how to 'fly under the radar'. However, I was glad to be reminded about the $10,000 reporting rule.
