What is the name of your state? California We have a checking account with my Dad's name and mine on it. It is my Dad's money but I have to pay the bills. What happens if my father dies? Does this account go into probate? Would it be better not to have my Dad's name on the account although this is his money?

If you are a joint owner then you will still be able to use the account and access the funds if your Father should pass away. If you are only a POA (not Durable) then you will NOT have access to the account since POA ends when a person dies.
