What is the name of your state? Michigan

My mother recently passed. Had no assests (small amount in checking), does have a life insurance policy - have not collected yet. Can debtors collect from Life insurance? She also left a small monthly pension to one heir, can that be affected?

She had filed chapter 13, but was dismissed. Not sure amount still owed, possibly up to $25000.

we are not planning on involving an attorney. Have cleared her checking account, paid all bills we are aware of. Not planning on probate or death notice.

Can creditors make a claim on heirs? Any other legal pitfalls we might be missing?

Who is listed as the beneficiary of the life insurance policy? If it is you, then they cannot take YOUR money to pay her debts, unless there are tax debts.
