What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina
my mother recently passed away leaving a small estate to me and my sons(she had a will) She had bank cds, annuities, a car, and life insurance. Do I need a lawyer or can I take care of this myself by submitting death certificates and original paperwork to the appropriate institutions? Total value of approx. $100,000.What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Did mother have designated beneficiaries listed with her different accounts? You could do most of this by yourself.
