What is the name of your state? New Jersey

Mother in law is leaving the country and wants to grant financial POA to my husband. Can we simply download a form off the internet (such as below), and have it notarized?

http://www.ilrg.com/forms/powatrny.html
http://www.ilrg.com/forms/powerofattorney-gd/us/nj

Is this legally binding for transactions such as handling the sale of her home, etc? We prefer not to have to pay for an atty if this can be avoided.

Thanks.

As long as it's notarized and no one is going to fight it (claiming fraud) it would be legal, HOWEVER, I suggest at least a consult with an attorney so that MIL knows what she is getting into... Also remember that just by word of mouth she has the right to revoke it. Many attorney's do free consults, and then you can call around for a price of one. I obtained one on my husband prior to our marriage for 35$ and I had the ability to do everything but sign him into the military.
