What is the name of your state? Washington

My recently deceased son had no assets other than clothes. He had been ill and all money had been expended. For the past 2 years he lived with us and we supported him until he recently received DSHS medical support. We paid all funeral expenses. Do we have to pay an attorney to probate an estate with no value and incur further expense or are there alternatives? Thank you
