Just had a few questions on how a will works.
My wives mother passed a month ago and her brother is in charge of the will.
We have a copy of the will and the will be evenly split between 3 people.
The brother in charge of the will is a shady character and never associates with the rest of the family. No one has heard from this guy since the passing.
Rumor is that the shady brother has invested this money in cd's.
How long should we wait for this guy to emerge and let us know whats going on. Also where should we start if he decides to hide forever? Seems like this guy is up to something. If it were me in charge, Everyone would have knowledge as to what will happen and be assured that the will would be executed properly and in timely manner...

Check at the county courthouse to see if the will has even been filed for probate.

If you know where the CD's are being held, contact the bank and ask for information about any named beneficiaries for the CD's and who that would be.

If he hasn't filed the will, then hire an attorney to get probate opened up so that judge can ask him to produce the will for probate.

Has anyone asked this man whether he got power of attorney for the decedent before she died?
