What is the name of your state?I have received a final accounting of my aunt's Delaware estate of $258,758.57 (Gross Probate Estate). The executor, a cousin whose mother is one of the several beneficiaries of the estate, charged a commission of $26,000 (in addition to charges for postage, checking account, travel etc.) The lawyer charged $11,500 on top of that. Delaware law apparently allows for "a reasonable amount" although it used to allow 3.3% in the past, total for lawyer and executor. This was not a complicated estate: the home needed to be sold, a few bills paid, and the like. Beneficiaries were all local. No lawsuits, etc. $26,000 certainly doesn't sound "reasonable" to me. What do you think?
