What is the name of your state? I am in Florida.
My father recently passed away in PA--he was a resident of Florida. He was getting $40,000 a year from his retirement money and still had two more checks due him for $40,000 left before he died. The only beneficiary he listed was my mother who committed suicide two years ago (I am the only child and he never listed me as a beneficiary.) In order to get the retirement money the company said that I need paperwork showing I am the Executor of his estate.
How do I do this? They are sending a check to me now made out to my father's estate. I am disabled and on SSI and have no money to hire attorneys for this. Can I do this on my own somehow? I tried calling the courthouse and the lady there would only give me the phone number for the law library. Thank you so much for any help you can give me.
