what is inventory and appraisement? Every screwdriver and sofa cushion?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? WA
I am the executor for my dad's estate. I understand I need to do a "Inventory and Appraisement" list. Is there a guide line for what IS an asset, what can I omit, how do I know to include it, do I need to inventory every book title, sofa cushion and lamp?

My dad had bank accounts but they were joint accounts with me, so it was an easy transfer as it was with his car..which I share title with. I understand I don't have to count that money against the estate net worth right?

I could sure use some guidance with the inventory..??
