What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois

My attorney says his fees are based on how much the estate is worth. You would think it would be a flat fee, especially since he said this was a simple probate situation. Why penalize me for having a larger estate?

My attorney says I have to pay fees according to how much the estate is worth.
What fees are you referring to? Probate court fees? Attorney fees?

If attorney fees, what was your fee agreement with the attorney when you retained him/her?

If you don't like the attorney fees, find a new attorney. Illinois statutes only say that attorney compensation be reasonable.
