Do I HAVE to be a witness?

Ok..
So Ive been sent a letter that says i have to be a witness in a Recorders court...commonly known as a subpoena. It tells me i'm ordered to go, then
On the bottom of it, it says "Failure to do so may result in a fine of 300 dollars"
I'd rather get shot and buried 6 feet under before I have to be a witness for this; Can I just pay the damn 300 dollars? It doesn't say anywhere on that paper that I'll go to Jail if i don't go.

The judge may issue a warrant for your arrest and compell the police to drag your butt to court.

Yes and search bench warrant.

Aww man, i was hoping it wouldn't come to that.
Why didn't they write that on the paper? I mean, thats a serious punishment, they should of wrote down '300 dollars, AND get your butt dragged into court"

Our wonderful rights also come with responsibilities. People die for them, you can take a day to testify in some legal matter.

Is there any proof you actually received the mail? I mean, did anyone see you open and read it, were there cameras around such as at a post office, or did you have to sign for it? You could try just ignoring it... I'm not sure it's proper if there's no proof you received it. Isn't that why there are process servers? This is easy for me to say, though... it's not my butt on the line.

Why don't you want to be a witness?

Don't iggy the subpoena. That would not be wise.

Street racing is not a big deal. Go in, tell the truth, and get it over with. You'll feel much better.

(you've been living with this for four months now...time to move on...)
