How does a person who's already in jail go about becoming an informant (who do they contact and what do they say?). Also, is it possible for someone with a criminal record to have a "crime fighting" career? If so what and how. Thanks.

I suspect they ask to speak/write to the police and say they have information about a certain crime.

Crime fighter? You mean like the most FANTASTIC crime fighter the world has ever known?

Most police departments are a bit reticent to hire ex-cons, if that's what you are asking. You could always become a lawyer :) although certain criminal convictions will keep you from being admitted there.
