What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? South Dakota

My sister was picked up for petty theft in the second degree yesterday. She stole something worth 34 dollars....I know it's ridiculous but she was charged with petty theft in the second ten months ago. In her defense she was with someone who committed the theft so she didn't get probation or anything but fees but still it is on her record as a first offense...

My question is, what kind of consequences is she looking at. From her actions I kind of assume she's extremely sorry, at least I hope so. She cooperated fully with the store and the police and they let her go as a trustee for it. Any ideas?
