My 15 year old daughter was stopped for curfew violation and they found an opened bottle of vodka in car. Daughter, father and myself rec'd juvenile summons to appear for minor in possession. The next day she was served with a crimnal court summons for transporting open container. Parents were not served with this summons, only the 15 year old and it appears not to be in juvenile court. Is this legal in the state of Kansas? Don't parents have to be notified. This was all a first offense. Never been in trouble before. We had been advised by the intake officer that for these charges, 1st offense they would be handled in "teen court" a non-legal alternative to court so we were surprised by the summons!
