If I signed a "Quit claim deed" giving my share of my parents home to my mother, can I be held responsible for the mortgage she took out shortly before her death? Her will leaves the house to my sister who is currently living in the home so I am in no hurry to see the estate settled. I don't care about getting anything out of the estate I just don't want to be responsible for her debts.

This is in Georgia.

If you did no co-sign the mortgage, you are not liable for it. Your mother’s estate is liable for her debts; you are not. That means if you get property from the estate, that property, an none other of yours could be subject to her debts.
