If there was an incident of domestic violence that resulted in a hospital stay, what should the offender do? He does not want to go to jail. He wants to leave the woman however, she does not want him to leave. He is afraid that if he leaves, she will press charges. He has already looked into an anger management program. What should he do to protect himself legally?

Leave. He can't stop her from pressing charges, but it's easier to argue she started the fight if she doesn't file charges until after he leaves. Makes her look vindictive. He might be able to generate reasonable doubt, with a good attorney. Start saving for one now.
