We live in California. about 9 years ago (before we were together) my boyfriend was arrested and convicted for DWI. His drivers license was suspended for 3 years. He has not been able to get his license back because one of the provisions was that he had to take a drinking driver course that is 18 months long and costs a couple of thousand dollars and we just haven't had the money.
Frankly I am fine with him not driving for the most part, although I do get tired of having to always be the driver. He rides his bicycle everywhere and has not gotten into any trouble at all since his conviction. He thinks that there may be some way for him to get a restricted drivers license without taking the course by petitioning the court but has not pursued this. I think that he can't get any type of drivers license back without taking the course. Who is right? Is there anyway to change the terms of the original conviction regarding getting his license back?
